Construction on the Highway 101 widening project is currently impacting parts of Montecito and Santa Barbara, with ongoing work around the Hot Springs Road, Olive Mill Road, Cabrillo Boulevard, and Milpas Street interchanges. Crews are building new bridges, improving on- and off-ramps, adding peak-period carpool lanes, and upgrading traffic flow throughout the corridor. The current phase also includes traffic pattern changes in Montecito and work on the Cabrillo and Milpas interchanges, making these some of the most affected areas today.
While construction has created temporary congestion, these improvements are a long-term investment in the South Coast. Neighborhoods including Montecito, the Lower Riviera, the Eastside, the Waterfront, and the Milpas Corridor are experiencing the most noticeable impacts during construction, but they'll also be among the first to benefit from improved access, safer intersections, and a more efficient commute once the project is complete.
